appointments at Billingshurst SurgeryAppointment System

All consultations at the surgery are by appointment only, are generally scheduled to last 10 minutes and are subject to availability.

From the 1st April our appointment system will run as follows:

  • Morning appointments will remain bookable 24 hours (1 working day) in advance. However, apart from 2 dedicated appointments per GP session, the GPs will no longer be able to ‘pre-book’ these appointments which invariably resulted in much reduced availability one day ahead for the rest of our patients.
  • Afternoon appointments will become available to book just two weeks in advance instead of the current 4 weeks.
  • Same day or ‘Duty Team’ appointments will continue as they do currently for patients who meet the ‘urgent’ criteria.

Before/after Bank Holidays we may make some morning appointments 'Book on Day' instead to take account of the increased patient demand at these times.

Appointments can be booked in person or by telephone on 01403 782931. With the exception of the Duty Team, all appointments are also available to book on-line within the appropriate time frame on-line via Patient Access.

We do not accept appointment requests made via contact forms or email.

Our Telephone & Reception teams have demanding roles dealing with every aspect of medical practice duties. Occasionally, due to patient demand, they work under difficult circumstances, so please be patient and help them to help you. In order to allocate you to an appropriate clinician, and to assist them in preparing for your consultation, they will ask you for a brief reason for your appointment.

GP Access Hubs - New Evening & Weekend Appointments:

Additional GP and nurse appointments are now available during the evening and at the weekend at local GP access hubs across Coastal West Sussex. These same-day and next-day appointments can still be booked by calling the surgery, but may not be based here but at other practices across our commissioning area, eg The Glebe Surgery in Storrington, and practices in Henfield and Steyning. The clinician that you see will be able to access your Billingshurst Surgery medical records with your consent.

Late Arrivals

Please note that, if you arrive up to 20 minutes late for your appointment,  you will still be seen but may have to wait for a suitable gap in the GP's surgery. If you arrive over 20 minutes late for your appointment, you have effectively missed it. You should then speak to the Receptionist who will offer to rebook your appointment or ask the GP if they can still accommodate you. There is no guarantee that you will be seen and if you are it may entail waiting until the end of the GP's surgery.

Cancelling & rescheduling appointments

If you cannot attend your given appointment please call us on 01403 782931 to cancel or reschedule. You can also cancel appointments on-line via Patient Access if you are registered for this service. On average in excess of 60 people a month fail to turn up for their appointments without informing us. These slots could be put to good use and offered to another patient, allowing the doctors and nurses to reduce any backlog of patients and reduce waiting times. Please think of others when you can no longer attend or need a scheduled appointment.

Home visits

In cases of severe illness, infirmity, or emergencies, the GP or nurse will visit the patient at home. However, where possible patients should make their way to the Surgery to see their GP or Health Professional as for every home visit a GP or nurse makes they could see several patients in the surgery.

If you are too ill to attend please call the surgery on 01403 782931 before 10.00am if possible, as rounds have to be planned. You will be asked for a reason for the Home Visit so we can judge the urgency of the call. The doctor may phone before visiting to assess the urgency of the visit.
